Oakland Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.
Oakland Community College has elevated Mary Miles, Ed.D. to dean of health professions, from her previous role as associate dean. In this capacity, Dr. Miles will provide administrative oversight and leadership for all 10 of OCC’s popular health professions programs
“With Dr. Miles abilities as an educator and a leader, I know that our health professions division will achieve even higher levels of excellence,” said Timothy A. Sherwood, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.
OCC’s health professions programs include dental hygiene; diagnostic medical sonography; health care administration; medical assisting; nursing; occupational therapy assistant; physical therapy assistant; radiologic technology; respiratory therapy; and surgical technology.
Dr. Miles joined OCC in 2014 as a faculty member and chair of the nursing department. Prior to joining OCC, she was the associate dean of nursing and allied health at North Central Michigan College (NCMC), Petoskey, Mich., where she began her teaching career as a faculty member in the department of nursing and twice received NCMC’s Outstanding Person in Education award. Dr. Miles also has extensive practical experience as a former nurse at Northern Michigan Hospital and Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Miles earned her doctorate degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University; a Master of Science degree in nursing from Northern Michigan University; and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Nazareth College.
