Cranbook Schools issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.
Dear Cranbrook Friends and Family,
With profound affection for the entire Cranbrook Educational Community, I share with you today that I will be retiring as president of Cranbrook at the end of the academic year in June 2020.
The years since I arrived at Cranbrook – first as its chief operating officer and then as its eighth president – have been truly extraordinary. Cranbrook has served the most fulfilling chapters of my professional life and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust and special relationships that have developed with trustees, governors, parents, alumni and, of course, our faculty and staff during this time.
Throughout life, I have been driven to make a difference. Never has that been more true than during my tenure at Cranbrook. To contribute in service to Cranbrook’s overall vision to challenge minds and transform lives has been a sincere honor. As I reflect upon a career that has brought great joy in making this work a priority, I realize how wonderfully Cranbrook’s vision has transformed my own life, and recognize that time has come to shift that focus toward family and personal considerations.
This has not been an easy decision on my part. My first steps on campus were as a father at the front door of Brookside and have resulted in a journey that will carry on for a lifetime. I continue to be energized by the spirit of this community and the important strategic themes we have advanced together in recent years. I am confident that our leadership team will ensure that our forward momentum continues during this transition and into the future.
There remains much to do and I am steadfastly committed to advancing the goals and objectives laid out for the year ahead. I am thankful for the ongoing support of all who lead and define this unique place of learning and discovery. With a thorough search underway and sincere trust in the Search Committee and Board of Trustees, I look forward to supporting the next president of Cranbrook and the future of this great institution.
In the coming months, I also look forward to spending more time with you as we continue to provide a sustainable community where education is prized, the human spirit is nurtured, and innovation and creativity are valued.
With warm regards,
Dominic A. DiMarco, President
