Automotive supplier Marelli has temporarily suspended its North American operations due to coronavirus concerns.
Assembly Magazine reports that the manufacturing company has initiated work-from-home practices, virtual meetings, a critical-visitor-only policy and social-distancing measures. The duration of the closures will be evaluated every few days, and operations may continue on a reduced scale to meet customer needs.
The Northern American plant closures come just a few days after Marelli announced it has halted production at most of its plants in Europe, according to Yahoo! Finance.
Marelli recently announced plans to start moving its North American headquarters to Southfield later this year, according to WardsAuto. It will occupy a three-story building that fellow Tier 1 automotive supplier Federal-Mogul vacated in 2015. The new headquarters will include workplaces to accommodate roughly 500 employees, conference rooms, indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, an auditorium, fitness room, cafeteria and a space for research and development.
