If you have an underlying health condition, something as simple as going to the grocery store can seem like a life-or-death proposition as COVID-19 continues to spread, but a Ferndale entrepreneur has a solution.

Mindful Meals are developed by chefs and sold in "BPA-free 6-ounce pouches," according to The Oakland Press.

The pouches contain meals like chicken-and-broccoli and cheese tortellini. The affordable meals cost $4 per pouch or $120 per case of 30. When refrigerated, the meals remain fresh for up to 40 days.

Jack Aronson, owner of Mindful Meals, told The Oakland Press, “There are so many people who are unable to go to the grocery store or even cook right now, that we moved the launch date of our quick heat-and-enjoy meals forward by several months out of a sense of urgency."

Mindful Meals has donated more than 2,000 meals to the Ferndale Senior Center, Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit, the Food Bank of Oakland County and Mitch Albom’s SAY Detroit group of charities, according to The Oakland Press.

For every 30 meals that are purchased, the company will donate 10 meals to those in need, and curbside delivery is available.

Aronson said the health of his employees is also a top priority.

Workers are separated by curtains to ensure social distancing, and every employee has access to a potent hand sanitizer made by the Detroit City Distillery.

Mindful Meal employees were also give 40-pound boxes of food so they can cut back on leaving their own homes to go grocery shopping.

Aronson said he is proud of his employees and proud of what they are doing to help feed the surrounding communities.

"My team worked at lightning speed to get this product out to our customers and those most in need in our community; they inspire me every day,” Aronson told The Oakland Press.

Aronson also owns Clean Planet Foods and is the founder of Garden Fresh Gourmet Salsa.
