Oakland County started a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site for first responders, essential business employees and Pontiac residents who are showing symptoms of the virus.
"We are grateful that Honor Community Health is working with us to provide much-needed testing," County Executive David Coulter said in a news release. "It's important for our first responders and essential business employees -- such as those who work in grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants -- to remain healthy and safe. Our efforts at stopping the spread of the virus are working, but we can't let down our guard."
COVID-19 testing is taking place at the Oakland County Complex on North Telegraph Road in Pontiac from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Patch Troy. The county partnered with Honor Community Health and expects the drive-thru site to be able to test 250 individuals a day.
Test results can be expected 24 to 48 hours after being tested, Patch reported.
"Instead of requiring a doctor's prescription for the testing, the medical director from our Health Division will issue a standing order on who meets the guidelines for a test," Coulter said in the release. "We want to make this as barrier-free as possible. We must identify the extent of the virus in our communities and address the problem."
