Movie theaters might be closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, but moviegoers who are tired of sitting on their couch might have an alternative in the coming days.
The management of Canterbury Village in Orion Township decided, starting April 30, to transform the facility into a drive-in movie theater that shows movies throughout the week, except on Wednesdays.
According to Detroit Free Press, the management initially decided to show movies only on weekends, until they saw all the tickets sell out within hours.
AV7 Productions owner Dan Newman said the idea of a drive-in came to him after all the events that his company handles were closed due to the shutdown.
Due to the social-distancing guidelines, the space can handle 150 cars, which enables cars to maintain a 20-foot distance from each other. The setup uses a large LED video wall, which guarantees clarity and a high-quality experience.
