Rep. Andrea Schroeder (R-Independence Twp) recently voted in favor of the "Return to Learn" plan, legislation based on a bill she helped to introduce that would give local school districts the final say in how they conduct instruction in the coming school year.
The bipartisan plan gives school districts the responsibility of working with local health experts to determine the safest and best approach for schooling in the fall in an attempt to tailor the methods used to the needs of local communities, according the Michigan House Republicans website.
“As a mother and a former teacher, I approached this challenge with the best interests of children, families and educators at heart,” Schroeder said, according to Michigan House Republicans. “We must do all we can to protect the health of our students and everyone in our school communities. We must also ensure learning continues, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19. I am confident this plan provides the flexibility, accountability and support to do just that.”
