There has been many questions regarding water over a very eventful weekend in the City of Clawson.
Clawson was not at any time under a Boil Water Advisory. The Port Huron transmission main break, multiple Fire Department emergencies where hydrants were used, and our own water main break on 15 Mile Road caused a lot of disturbances to our system over the weekend. These disturbances stirred up sediment in the distribution system which results in cloudy or dirty water. While the appearance may be physically unpleasant it is not a requirement to issue a Boil Water Advisory. If you experience cloudy or dirty water we suggest you try and flush your system with a faucet closest to your meter (typically a laundry tub) and flush using cold water only.
Boil Water Advisories are typically ordered when pressures in a system drop below 20psi and the likelihood of contaminants or bacterial grow could occur. The Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority (SOCWA) constantly monitors our water pressures and tests our water to insure safe drinking water for our residents.
