REGISTER: “Hamer family: Royal Oak Freedom Seekers” via Zoom on Sept. 8.
The Michigan Freedom Trail Commission is proud to present the 5th annual Heritage Gathering. The commission has put together several evening events throughout the month of September, including a presentation by Royal Oak resident Donald Drife.
Don, with the support of LaKeesha Morrison and Robert Muller, will present the freedom seeking story of Henry and Elizabeth Hamer. The Hamer family was one of the first black families to settle in Royal Oak, back in 1857. Their story starts in Kentucky, where Elizabeth (Ward) Hamer was a house slave and her husband, Henry Hamer, was a plantation slave.
The virtual event is free; however, you do need to register at https://us06web.zoom.us/.../reg.../WN_acGmVcEpQeyZKeOG7McXAA
