Crime Alert

CRIME ALERT

On 10/6/22 between 530-630am, numerous subjects entered the City of Berkley, with intent on criminal Activity.

There were two vehicles stolen (one Recovered in Ferndale after brief pursuit), one Steering Wheel, and other attempted larcenies & Car theft attempts.

It appears the group was working with numerous individuals, as they were traveling in groups of 3-4 cars up and down the side streets, while examining their targets. The suspects arrived in Jeep Cherokee's, but also used vehicles they stole to move around in. Numerous home security cameras are coming in to assist in vehicle / suspect identification.

Areas known to have been hit include;

4100 block of Tyler / Gardner

3000 block of Phillips and Cummings

2900-3000 block of Ellwood.

In some of these cases, the suspects broke the window, and then attempted to steal the car, steering wheel (for airbag) or items within the car.

Other vehicles, were left unlocked with keys inside.

AS ALWAYS.... Do NOT leave anything of value in your car, especially the keys. Lock your doors.  Leave Porch lights on at night, set up security cameras, be alert when the dogs bark or things "just don’t seem right" and contact BDPS. Hardening is a term we use to make it difficult for the criminal to get away with crimes.

We thank the caller who tipped us about it around 630, which helped scare them off and these cases will be sent to the Detectives to try to ascertain the suspects identity and possible criminal charges.

We are a community of families and it takes each of us to keep it safe. We will not let the criminals prosper, and will continue to maintain our security and pride to call this place our home. It takes all of us to do our part, to remain the place we call Berkley.

If you have any video evidence you may send to db@berkleypublicsafety.net

If you see a crime in progress you can always call 911 or our Dispatch at 248-658-3380.
