Congratulations to Sgt. Dennis Geary, PSO Evan Beauchamp, PSO Brian Smith, and PSO Zach Tyler for recently being recognized with Achievement in Excellence Awards by the Oakland County Medical Control Authority.
On September 23, 2022 Sgt. Geary, PSO Beauchamp, and PSO Tyler were dispatched to a business on Woodward on a medical with the patient reportedly unconscious. Upon arrival the officers found the subject to be in cardiac arrest. They immediately began CPR, deployed an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and the LUCAS mechanical chest compression device. Alliance Mobile Health arrived on the scene shortly after and administered advance life support (ALS) treatment. Within 20 minutes after the initial call, a pulse was detected. The patient was transported to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak for further treatment.
Less than 90 minutes later, Sgt. Geary, PSO Beauchamp, and PSO Smith were dispatched to Thomas and Beverly on a medical with a subject passed out in the street. Upon arrival, PSOs observed a bystander administering CPR. The PSOs immediately took over CPR, deployed an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and the LUCAS mechanical chest compression device. Our mutual aid partners, the Southfield Fire Department, arrived on the scene shortly after and administered advance life support (ALS) treatment. Again, within 20 minutes after the initial call, a pulse was detected. The patient was transported to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak for further treatment.
Two citizens are alive today due to the quick actions of all involved. This includes the quick notification of 911, the immediate and quick response of BDPS officers, bystander CPR, ALS treatment by Alliance Mobile Health and the Southfield Fire Department, and prompt treatment by Beaumont Hospital. It is truly a team effort.
We would especially like to thank the bystander who performed CPR at Thomas and Beverly prior to the arrival of BDPS.
Congrats to all.
