On March 18 at approximately 0906 hrs, the Clawson Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on the 1100 block of Broadacre Ave. A neighbor reported seeing smoke and flames from the roof of the residence. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the roof vents and eaves, and neighbors reported the resident and his dog were unaccounted for. A handline was stretched into the building, and the fire attack crew found the kitchen on fire. The fire was quickly knocked down. Simultaneously, a primary search of the structure was conducted by a search team. The resident was located alive in the basement of the residence and rescued from the structure. The resident’s dog was also located alive and rescued from the structure. The resident was transported by Alliance Mobile Health with non-live threatening injuries, and the dog was turned over to family members.
Extensive overhaul of the building was conducted due to the fire extending up into the attic. Crews remained on scene for approximately 4 hours extinguishing hot spots as a majority of the ceiling had to be pulled down. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thanks to the fast action and hard work by firefighters, Clawson Police Department, and Alliance Mobile Health, lives were saved that morning. We are all proud to serve the CIty of Clawson.
