Madison District Public schools recognized students who had garnered student of the month honors, along with exemplary staff at their April 3 board meeting.
From the Early Childhood Center (ECC), school officials welcomed Emerson, who goes by Emmy, a shining example of what a positive attitude and friendly demeanor can do. She loves playing dinosaurs with her classmates and has grown into a fearless and occasionally sassy young student.
The other student of the month from the afternoon group was Aria, who walks into class every day attentive and ready to learn. His classmates follow his lead, playing with whatever toys and methods he chooses that day.
The school also recognized kindergarten teacher, Michelle, for her efforts in the classroom.
“I've had the pleasure of working with Michelle in the past year and now. Her love of the profession and of her students is obvious,” said ECC Principal Lisa DiGiulio. “The minute you walk into her classroom, Michelle goes above and beyond to accommodate all of her students. Some of the things that colleagues have said are they have parents who have even commented on positive relationships with not only the students, but with the families as well. Michelle is always so upbeat and positive with her kids and staff members. Every time I step into her classroom, I feel engaged and ready to participate in whatever she has planned. She is a stellar teacher and that is why we have chosen her.”
From the elementary school, teachers recognized Kindergartener Bryant, who is new in the district. He is a star student in the classroom and loves being in school with his classmates each day. He “cheesed” for a picture with his teacher and principal. Mariana was also recognized as a student of the month. Her teacher noted how resilient and determined she is and never fails to meet a challenge head on.
From middle school, two eighth grade students were honored. First up was Kennedy, who is known for treating everyone on campus with respect. Kennedy has a passion for learning that rubs off on her classmates, and recently received a Level 1 rating at Division Solo and Ensemble and will represent the school in their Honors Band.
Carson was also honored by the board. He is considered a very conscientious student who is on top of all of his responsibilities. Though quiet, he leads by example with his diligence in school and kindness to others.
Tristan was recognized by his high school teachers due to his impressive grades and academic achievements. He is a renowned science writer, helping his students in class whenever they ask. Tristan also excels in art classes and music lessons, always honing his abilities. The second student chosen was unable to attend, but the board also honored the contributions of Essence to the school.
