State Representative Mike Harris, a Republican from Waterford with 26 years of experience in local law enforcement, has voiced concerns regarding the leadership of the Michigan State Police. On Monday, Harris issued a statement following a survey where state police officers expressed significant dissatisfaction with Col. James F. Grady II, the Department of State Police director, and Lt. Col. Aimee Brimacombe, the department’s chief deputy director.
Harris stated: “Michigan State Police troopers are fed up with the top brass. I’ve heard personally from many officers on the force. They’re frustrated that the director and other leadership seem to be looking out for themselves rather than supporting the men and women on the front lines. The survey makes it clear: This toxic culture is affecting the force all across the state."
He further emphasized: “Brave state police officers put their lives on the line to keep our highways and communities safe. They deserve leaders who will have their backs. Instead, Col. Grady and Lt. Col Brimacombe have failed the troopers and the people they protect and serve. It’s time for the governor to intervene and restore integrity and purpose to the Michigan State Police.”
The Michigan State Police Troopers Association released results from a survey conducted among its members last Friday, revealing that 98.48% of 1,185 respondents lacked confidence in Grady's and Brimacombe’s leadership.
Several controversies have surfaced during Grady's and Brimacombe's tenure, including allegations of awarding themselves improper bonuses as per a complaint filed in January. Additionally, Brimacombe was involved in settling a lawsuit against state troopers despite having personal ties to the plaintiff’s family.
