Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt of Porter Township addressed mourners at a rally on the Michigan Capitol lawn, held to honor the late Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was killed in what Nesbitt described as a murder that occurred "in broad daylight," leaving behind his family and supporters.

Nesbitt spoke about Kirk’s commitment to his faith, family, and country. He stated, “Charlie was a good man who treasured his God, his family and his country. He boldly shared his message with others, even those who disagreed with him, and it cost him his life. He was murdered in broad daylight, leaving his wife, children, friends and a nation in sorrow.”

He acknowledged that some people have responded to Kirk’s death by expressing satisfaction or calling for an end to the Turning Point movement. However, Nesbitt said this has only made Kirk’s voice stronger: “While there are some who celebrate his loss and want the Turning Point movement to be silenced, Charlie’s voice has only been amplified. Although we grieve, we will not be disheartened in our mission to preserve and defend our freedom and our great nation.”

Nesbitt emphasized that he and others would continue advocating for their values peacefully: “We will continue proclaiming the values of faith, family and patriotism that America so desperately needs — not through violence, riots and destruction, but through words, love and engaging with others in the marketplace of ideas.”

The event brought together supporters mourning Kirk's death while reaffirming their commitment to promoting their beliefs through nonviolent means.
