Senator Aric Nesbitt Criticizes Michigan Senators Over Potential Military Pay Disruption

Senator Aric Nesbitt posted a series of tweets on October 9 and 10, 2025, expressing concern over the potential for Michigan's active duty service members to miss paychecks due to ongoing political disagreements in Washington.

On October 9, Nesbitt stated, "Michigan has nearly 5,000 active duty service members. Senators Slotkin and Peters don't care if ALL of them go without pay because they think free healthcare for illegals is more important than taking care of our troops and reopening the government. @RapidResponse47 https://t.co/eeIhsqqKSW".

Later that day, he also congratulated a prominent figure from Michigan: "One of our greatest Michiganders. Congratulations, @RealBenCarson! https://t.co/izZiq8Ixfk".

On October 10, Nesbitt reiterated his concerns about military pay amid the federal budget impasse: "Michigan’s 5,000 active duty service members are at risk of missing a paycheck because our Senators Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters are too afraid to stand up to Chuck Schumer and their radical base. https://t.co/OmFRZ8LUec".

The remarks come during a period when Congress faces challenges passing appropriations bills needed to keep the federal government open. If an agreement is not reached before funding expires, certain federal employees—including active duty military personnel—may not receive their regular pay until after a shutdown ends. This situation has led to heightened political tensions as lawmakers debate issues such as immigration policy and healthcare access.

Nesbitt's comments reference Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters, both U.S. senators representing Michigan, and suggest disagreement with Senate leadership over priorities in current budget negotiations.
