Senator Aric Nesbitt, a Republican representing Michigan, posted a series of tweets on October 13 and 14, 2025, addressing issues related to the government shutdown, support for the Coast Guard, and political discourse.

On October 13, Nesbitt highlighted Michigan's geography and expressed gratitude to federal officials for supporting the Coast Guard during a government shutdown. He wrote, "Michigan has the largest contiguous coastline in the U.S. and our Great Lakes Coast Guard is essential in keeping us safe. Thank you Secretary Noem and President Trump for making sure they get paid while Democrats keep the government shutdown." According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Michigan does have the longest freshwater coastline in the United States due to its position along four of the five Great Lakes.

The following day, Nesbitt posted another message supporting former President Donald Trump. On October 14, he stated, "Once again, President Trump was right about everything and none of the Democrats crazed predictions came true." This tweet reflects ongoing partisan debates over policy outcomes and predictions made by political opponents.

Later on October 14, Nesbitt responded directly to an unnamed individual with a pointed accusation. He wrote, "You literally said you want to execute your opponents and that their kids need to die in their arms. Drop out." The context of this exchange is not provided in Nesbitt's post.

Senator Nesbitt's remarks come amid a period of heightened partisan tension during a federal government shutdown. The Coast Guard's funding during such shutdowns has been a recurring issue in recent years, as service members have sometimes faced delayed paychecks when appropriations lapse.
