Senator Aric Nesbitt, a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate, posted a series of tweets on October 16, 2025, criticizing U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin regarding their positions on issues related to a government shutdown and immigration.

In a tweet posted at 13:58 UTC, Nesbitt stated, "Take note Michigan: @SenGaryPeters and @SenatorSlotkin don't care if you miss the vacation you saved up for. They don't care if your kids go hungry. They don't care if our military goes unpaid. Their only concern is protecting illegal immigrants."

At 14:01 UTC, Nesbitt addressed South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and the Transportation Security Administration, writing, "Attention @Sec_Noem and @TSA Please disregard this request and turn all the TV's at the Detroit Airport to MAX volume. The people of Michigan deserve to hear the truth about this shutdown."

Later, at 14:08 UTC, Nesbitt encouraged Michigan residents to contact Senators Peters and Slotkin, sharing their office phone numbers and stating, "If you live in Michigan, be sure to call @SenGaryPeters and @SenatorSlotkin so you can ask them why they think illegal immigrants matter more than the American people: Senator Slotkin 202-224-4822 Senator Peters 202-224-6221"

These posts come amid ongoing national debates over government funding and immigration policy. Government shutdowns have historically affected a range of services, including pay for federal employees and military personnel, as well as public access to services such as airports. In recent years, disputes over immigration policy have frequently been linked to budget negotiations in Congress.

Senator Aric Nesbitt has previously voiced strong opinions on immigration enforcement and government spending, reflecting broader partisan divides on these issues within both Michigan and national politics.
