BIRMINGHAM FAMILY YMCA: Coronavirus Educational Information

Coranovirus9

Birmingham Family YMCA issued the following announcement on Mar. 2.

We want all our YMCA community to know we are closely monitoring the global coronavirus outbreak. Maintaining sanitary conditions is a high priority for our Y to help prevent the spread of any virus.  As of March 2, 2020 there have been no reported coronavirus cases in Michigan, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Our YMCA, as advised by the YMCA of the USA, is following recommendations outlined by the Center for Disease Control. Please visit https://www.cdc.gov/ for the most factual up to date national information.

Illnesses such as colds, flu, H1N1, coronavirus, etc. receive heavy media attention and can create anxiety among members, parents, program participants and volunteers. In an effort, to share prevention tactics to help keep our YMCA family informed and healthy we are sharing information on best practices to prevent the spread of a virus. In addition, we are sharing a coronavirus fact sheet from the Center for Disease Control (CDC): Visit the CDC website for more information www.cdc.gov.

Virus Prevention Etiquette Best Practices

  • Ensure regular and complete hand washing for everyone: staff, members, program participants, all ages.
  • Maintain a clean work environment – disinfect commonly shared work stations between users.
  • Ensure everyone uses appropriate cough and sneeze etiquette (cover mouth or nose when you sneeze or cough; use a tissue or arm at the fold of the elbow if tissue not available, put used tissue in trash… WASH HANDS!).
  • Ensure sanitizing of all equipment after each use.
