City of Madison Heights issued the following announcement on Sept 15.
DTE is preparing for a round of severe thunderstorms expected to pass through our service area later this afternoon and evening. DTE is planning for a large storm with up to 80K customer outages and 1,000 wire downs. Again, the NWS has our area at a slight risk for severe weather including rain, hail, lightning, strong wind gusts, and tornadoes.
DTE has been watching the changing weather prediction models. They stood up their Storm ICS early this morning in preparation for the weather. Their focus is on staffing up for downed wires and bringing in contract and out-of-state crews to assist with restoration, with more than 400 utility workers coming in support
There is an obvious focus on the customers who have been impacted by the multitude of severe storms this summer. They are also monitoring service to the schools we serve in an effort to address school outages, if they occur, as soon as possible.
