City of Oak Park issued the following announcement on Nov 15.
Majority of the play equipment at the Nine Mile Linear Park has been installed and some is even ready for use. While we won't have a "grand opening" until 2022, we do encourage families to utilize this wonderful new amenity and to employ basic playground safety etiquette.
We have heard the questions about the park's proximity to the road and want to assure everyone that a great deal of research and review was conducted by City officials and industry professionals to ensure the park is safe for use by children, families and the community as a whole!
To those still skeptical, rest assured, in the spring landscaping will be installed to serve as an additional buffer between the equipment and the road, and fencing will soon be placed around the sensory station. The City will also be installing additional traffic calming measures on Nine Mile, in addition to the ones that were installed at the beginning the Nine Mile Redesign project (bike lanes, a more narrow road, visual factors that naturally slow down motorists, etc.).
We look forward to providing another safe, and fun, place for our community to utilize!
