Birmingham Fire Department has thermal-imaging cameras

Janetmcknightflickr

City of Birmingham issued the following announcement on Dec 17.

The Birmingham Fire Department now has thermal-imaging cameras that attach directly to firefighters’ masks to help them more easily detect victims and trouble spots, in addition to lightening their equipment load. A lens on the side of the mask gives firefighters a full view of their surroundings and area temperatures will vary in color depending on how hot they are.

This technology assists our firefighters in seeing through the thick black smoke of a fire to locate victims or the source of the fire.
