I’d like to share the story of “Bob”

Webp police 10

Clawson Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan 13.

Today I’d like to share the story of “Bob.”  The name has been altered to protect the privacy of the subject.

Many years ago, Bob used to be someone we had frequent contact with.  Bob really enjoyed his alcohol and we would find him passed out throughout the city, his bottle of vodka never too far away.  Several times residents called on him because he was in their backyards or trying to get into their homes.  Bob never had criminal intentions; he was just so intoxicated he was confused on where he was.  Bob needed help and the tickets we were writing him eventually lead to him getting such help.  You see, I ran into Bob recently as he was purchasing a coffee in town.  I recognized him but he didn’t remember me despite our many conversations and all the times I had helped him as he struggled getting into an ambulance.  Bob looked healthier and surprisingly younger now.  I struck up a conversation with him and he shared his experience with me over the last several years.  Bob has been sober for several years now and he thanked me over and over for “saving his life” as he put it.  Bob even became emotional as we spoke.  We shook hands and he went on his way.  Its not very often that someone thanks us for arresting them, or if they do, its usually said in spite.  Bob was genuine and it left an impression on me that I thought was worth sharing.  We often see people at the worst moments in their lives.  Its refreshing to see his story come full circle.

For anyone else that may need help or know someone that needs help, Clawson PD has a partnership with Hope not Handcuffs.  The link to their website is attached.
