The Senior Services | Aging in Place Task Force is sharing the draft aging in place plan for public comment during the month of October. Over 12,000 Royal Oak residents are over the age of 60, so it is important for our neighbors to have the opportunity to age in our community if they would like to. The task force has worked over the past few years to develop a plan to help seniors age in place, access programs and services and be active in the community. The plan identifies goals and action steps in six different domains: outdoor spaces and buildings; transportation; information and communication; housing; community engagement and inclusion; health and community support services. The community can participate in a few different ways:
- Coffee and donuts! Come have coffee and donuts on October 22 from 10am to noon at the Leo Mahany / Harold Meininger Senior Community Center (3500 Marais Ave, Royal Oak, MI 48073). This will be an open house style event so feel free to join us when you can between 10am and noon. Residents will be able learn more about the plan and share their feedback.
- Online – You can find the plan online at romi.gov/agefriendly. There will also be a link available to share your comments on the plan with the task force.
- In person at the library or senior center. Hard copies are available at the reference desk in the library and in the senior center lounge at the senior center. Residents can provide their comments in writing or online.
- By mail, Royal Oak residents can request a copy of the plan to be mailed to their home. A return envelope will be supplied for comments to be mailed back. Please call 248.246.3207 and speak with Jeremy or leave a message with your name, address, and a phone number in case we need to call you back.
The task force is accepting public comments through October 31st at 5:00pm. The task force will begin the process of reviewing comments and incorporating feedback into a final draft that will be sent to the City Commission in December 2022 or early in 2023.
