Back to Basics FF 2023: Fire Hose
This is our LIFE LINE. The thing protecting us the most from the fire burning. It’s used to bring water from a hydrant or truck to the firefighters to extinguish the fire. It is also used as a guide in and out of the structure in less than ideal situations. This hose must be protected. Meaning, NO you can not drive over it. Even if you have dinner plans, need to get through the road, and/or every other reason we’ve heard in the past. And NO most of the time we can not move it out of the way.
Each truck is equipped with 1.75”, 2.5” & 5” diameter hose. Some pre-plumed to the truck, some stored for long stretches. It comes in 50’ & 100’ sections and all varies in color & weight. Once filled, a single section of 5” hose weighs nearly 1,000lbs!
Hose is deployed in emergency situations and is never meant to be an inconvenience to anyone. But, when you find yourself in a situation, remember the people this hose is helping is having one of worst days of their life. And on the other end of that line is someone Father, Mother, Husband, Wife, Brother, Sister. We matter too.
