Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt has called for a federal investigation into the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) regarding the alleged misuse of a $20 million taxpayer grant. The grant was awarded to Fay Beydoun, an associate of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Nesbitt stated, "The ongoing investigation into the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has uncovered deeply concerning details regarding the alleged misuse of a $20 million grant awarded to Fay Beydoun, a known associate of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer."

According to Nesbitt, official email records indicate that Beydoun communicated directly with the governor’s office to secure the grant. It is also alleged that MEDC officials were aware of this arrangement and attempted to conceal evidence from investigators.

Further concerns were raised by reports from The Detroit News that Governor Whitmer sent a letter, written on her behalf by Beydoun, to Qatari officials encouraging off-the-record communication with Beydoun.

Nesbitt expressed alarm over these developments: “In light of the governor’s recent travel to Qatar alongside an individual affiliated with a known terrorist organization, and the potential involvement of a foreign government, I believe there is sufficient cause for the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI to initiate a thorough investigation into this matter.”

He emphasized the importance of such an investigation: “A full investigation is essential to identify any potential threats or breaches and ensure no foreign entity is granted inappropriate access or influence over Michigan’s economic future.”
