Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt has called for a federal investigation into the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's grant scandal. Nesbitt addressed U.S. Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz in a letter, urging an inquiry into the involvement of foreign leaders in the alleged misuse of a $20 million taxpayer-funded grant. The grant was awarded to Fay Beydoun’s nonprofit, Global Link International.

Nesbitt expressed growing concerns as more details emerge about the situation. "The more this web is untangled, the more serious our concerns become," he stated. He highlighted reports that Governor Whitmer had sent a letter to Qatari officials encouraging off-the-record communications with Beydoun as particularly troubling, especially following her recent visit to Qatar.

In his correspondence with Horowitz, Nesbitt emphasized that while Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is investigating at the state level, the national security implications and involvement of foreign officials necessitate federal attention.
