Senator Aric Nesbitt, a Republican representing Michigan's 20th Senate District, has recently voiced his opinions on tax policy, legislative procedures, and energy sector support through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).

On August 14, 2025, Nesbitt criticized state tax policies in a post stating, "Instead of putting money back in peoples pockets you could just not take it from them in the first place. If you cared about lowering costs you wouldn’t have fought in court to raise taxes on Michigan families." This comment reflects ongoing debates within Michigan over recent legal battles concerning state income tax rates.

Later that day, Nesbitt addressed concerns about legislative transparency and appointments by writing, "Even House Dems are tired of Senate Dems refusing to hold hearings on Whitmer’s appointees. This is not how you govern!" His remarks refer to tensions between the Democratic-controlled chambers regarding Governor Gretchen Whitmer's pending appointments.

On August 15, 2025, Nesbitt highlighted his visit to an energy facility in L’Anse with the message: "Stopped by the Bio Mass power plant in L’Anse! These guys are working hard everyday to keep the lights on. Lansing should be working hard for them instead of looking for ways to make their job harder."

Nesbitt’s comments come amid broader discussions about Michigan’s fiscal policy and governance. In early 2023, Michigan lawmakers debated whether a temporary reduction in the state income tax rate would remain permanent or revert back; legal challenges ensued when Governor Whitmer’s administration argued for restoring higher rates after a one-year drop ([Detroit Free Press](https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/2023/08/17/michigan-income-tax-rate-legal-fight-whitmer-nessel-republicans/70590725007/)). Additionally, disputes over confirmation hearings for gubernatorial appointees have persisted as both parties contest procedural norms and executive authority ([Bridge Michigan](https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/michigan-senate-dems-accused-blocking-whitmer-appointee-hearings)).

Nesbitt’s advocacy for energy workers aligns with ongoing debates over regulatory changes affecting power generation facilities across the state.
